What is there to do in the area?

The nearby area has a lot to offer in terms of beautiful nature. There are both long and short trails you can walk if you want to explore.

The house is closely located to the starting point of The Queen’s Route (an 6-8 hour day trek). The hike is named after Her Majesty Queen Sonja who walked the route in 1994.

Another alternative is the hike to Nyken “a small trip with a big view”. The hill is located right behind Nyken Resort.

“Fiskeværet” in Nyksund is also a great experience. Nyksund is an old fishing community in Øksnes. It was the closeness to the fishing grounds outside of Vesterålen that made it such an attractive fishing village. The area was abandoned around 1970, but before people left, Nyksund had 5 fishlandings, 1 filet factory, 2 stores, a post office, expedition, bakery, blacksmith, school and church.

After a while the place became fairly popular for traveling artists, tourists and photographers. The movies “After Rubicon” and “Insomnia” is partly filmed in Nyksund.

If you should wish to take a RIB-trip we can help you organize it.
